Martin Kohlstedt is considered one of the outstanding composers, pianists, and producers of instrumental music and electronica. In his concerts, Martin Kohlstedt sets standards for how cutting-edge electronica productions can be combined with analog and acoustic mindsets from classical piano, ambient, field recordings, and score design. Kohlstedt describes his way of working as modular composing, with the pieces constantly in motion and following no fixed form even during concerts. Improvisation is an essential part of the creation process, as are engaging with the audience, the courage to fail, exploration, and interaction with people, space, and context.
Martin Kohlstedt has collaborated with renowned partners such as the GewandhausChor Leipzig, artists like Douglas Dare, Sudan Archives, Henrik Schwarz, and labels like Warner Classics. In addition to his own pieces, Kohlstedt composes soundtracks for films, theater productions, podcasts, and radio plays. With Edition Kohlstedt, he runs his own label and strives to fulfill his responsibility as an artist through a personal reforestation project.
