Hip Hop goes Theatre brings the creative power of Urban Dance to the theater stage, presenting international top companies from this genre since 2008.
Oxygen (~ 25min)
The highlight of this year's festival is the production "We are Oxygen" by the Dutch company Oxygen. Jennifer Romen, the multi-award-winning choreographer and three-time world champion, has set a new standard in the urban dance scene with this piece. The captivating performance impressively combines hip-hop and contemporary dance. The complex and dynamic choreography is complemented by innovative visual effects that continuously surprise and amaze the audience.
Max Revell (~ 15min)
Max Revell is a dancer from Cornwall who won the BBC Young Dancer competition in 2019. His award-winning piece "Samuel" demonstrates his ability to blend emotional depth with technical brilliance. Revell plans to continue his career in both the battle scene and in creating and performing contemporary and hip-hop theatre pieces.
Mogli (~ 5min)
Valentin Pezzei, also known as Mogli, began with classical ballet at the age of five before discovering breaking in 2009. Since then, he has become a dedicated hip-hop artist, also engaging in graffiti and rap. In "Jungle King," he explores his life journey as Mogli.
Funktastics (~ 5min)
Five talented locking dancers present an exhilarating show that combines nonverbal comedy with the funk style that emerged in the 1970s. The locking dance performance "Funk Express" transports the audience back to a time when funk music and expressive dance movements dominated the dance floors.
Alicia Kidman (~ 9min)
Alicia Kidman grew up in Salzburg and studied contemporary dance in London. Her dance piece "Unfolding Dreams" captures the development of dreams: the vibrant childhood, the teenage years, and the challenges of young adulthood. Three groups - Flashlight, Starlight, and Highlight Company - bring this journey to life.
Roonity & Uneakz (~5min)
The championship formations from Streetdance Center Salzburg, Roonity and Uneakz, showcase their combined talents in a fusion. "Memoirs of a Geisha" takes the audience on a journey into Japanese culture. Based on the film of the same name directed by Rob Marshall, the dance reflects the ambivalence between beauty, pressure, struggle, and unity.
The Strangers Crew (~ 5min)
The Strangers, consisting of three B-girls and three B-boys, showcase their show "Time," offering a glimpse into how they perceive life and how quickly it can pass. The choreography is a call to make the most of life and not to squander it.
Streetdance Center (~ 7min)
This year, the Streetdance Center presents a fusion of various groups and styles. The crew Powersquad consists of dancers from hip-hop and commercial choreography courses, showcasing hip-hop, breaking, house, and commercial choreographies with strength, energy, creativity, and joy.
