The inner courtyard of the Salzburg Museum provides the ideal venue for Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi’s duet A e R e A. In this highly acclaimed diptych, they focus on an object whose function has been to communicate notions of allegiance and separation from time immemorial and to mark the difference between a fictive “we” and a group of “them”: the flag. The piece’s title combines two terms that are graphically superimposed to merge into a single word: ARA – AEREA. ARA indicates the place that was dedicated to the sacrifice in ancient times, while the Greek word for air, AEREA, is a reference to the flag’s physical qualities. The accentuated movements of the dancers, their skilful use of the flags and the nuanced sound create a choreographic chamber play that tells stories, creates myths and demonstrates power.
Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in their home city of Rome before graduating from the Stoá, a school of rhythmic movement and philosophy. Since 2010, they have lived primarily in Berlin. In their performances they combine dance with the visual arts and often create a fascinating interplay of communication, power and violence with hybrid characters and images located between the past and the present. They will be performing the outdoor version of A e R e A for the very first time at Sommerszene.
