Hip Hop goes Theatre brings the creative power of urban dance to the theatre stage and has been showcasing leading (inter)national companies from this genre since 2008. For the 18th time, Austria’s first hip-hop theatre festival is transforming SZENE Salzburg into a stage for young, urban culture.
Ekleido – The festival’s highlight: Splice by the British choreographer duo Hannah Ekholm and Faye Stoeser combines New Way Voguing, Threading, Bone Breaking and contemporary dance into a physical puzzle. Two bodies intertwine to form symmetrical figures that emerge and then dissolve again – set to the original soundtrack by electronic music star Floating Points. The Guardian: “A short, brilliant burst of dance.”
Tamara Mancini – In her solo Unisono, the Swiss Waacking pioneer combines Waacking, tap dance and body percussion, inviting the audience to become part of the piece through a rhythmic question-and-answer interplay.
Amin Drillz – The three-time world record holder and spin expert (Flying Steps, America’s Got Talent) presents Rhythm in Rotation, a solo created specifically for the theatre space, blending technical perfection with showmanship.
Gattzilla – The Innsbruck-based artist fuses rap and dance into an energetic, all-encompassing experience – raw, direct and authentic.
Street Motion Studio – With Light Motion, the Innsbruck-based studio presents a spectacular LED dance show blending urban dance with visual effects.
Alicia Kidman – The Salzburg-based choreographer presents earth warriors, a new production featuring dancers from her dance school, London Dance Studios.
UNEAKZ – The championship formation team from the Streetdance Centre Salzburg brings hip hop, commercial and urban dance to the stage in Game On.
