The Choreographic Platform Austria in Salzburg starts today
For its opening the Choreographic Platform Austria 2025 presents the performance ZĀĀR by Ulduz Ahmadzadeh / ATASH عطش
In their joint work for the ATASH عطش contemporary dance company, choreographer Ulduz Ahmadzadeh and scenographer Till Krappmann research and adapt ancient pre-Islamic and often forbidden indigenous dances of the Persian Plateau, transferring them into contemporary artistic contexts. In search of transcultural dance affinities, they embark on a journey with ZĀĀR from the Persian-Arabian Gulf region to the African continent. They follow in the footsteps of the Zar cult, which is based on the idea that spirits are able to enter the human body as winds, causing mental or physical suffering.
“ZĀĀR is of global relevance. [...] The universality and urgency of the theme is downright disturbing.” (tanz.at)
