The Moroccan choreographer Taoufiq Izeddiou gets the SZENE theatre buzzing with his 12-strong ensemble. In his current piece he explores the creative dimension of trance and ist spiritual roots. What is more mysterious than emptiness? What is more painful than letting go? What is more surprising than a movement in the process of being created? Nine dancers and three musicians set off on a journey together to reassess this contradictory and violent world gone mad. Here music plays a decisive role: its rhythms, from the gnawa beats of the south and traditional Italian sounds to trendy techno beats, drive the events along together with boisterous drumming on upturned washbasins. The ensemble pushes itself to the brink of physical exhaustion, which in turn enables them to recognise the possibility of change. La Terre en Transe creates a futuristic world full of new sensations, spirituality and stories, and thrills its audience as an unrelentingly intense trip of music and dance. Taoufiq Izeddiou is one of the major artists of the North African dance scene and in his works, he repeatedly emphasises the essential importance of humanity. Again and again, he finds new ways of combining dance with live music and Arab and contemporary elements. With La Terre en Transe Taoufiq Izeddiou is making his first visit to Sommerszene.
