With the experimental music theatre performance REALITY BANG, the Finnish group Oblivia uses music, text and movement to illuminate the “big bang of reality” and the present day reality we are currently facing worldwide and in our own societies. Thrown into the REALITY BANG, what we have is the present moment, no past or future – no time for nostalgia, feelings of loss, not even catastrophe euphoria. In a new collaboration with award-winning composer Yiran Zhao, who has been working with Oblivia since 2020, the company led by Annika Tudeer and Timo Frederiksson continues its experimental explorations in the field of contemporary music theatre and once again brings big questions about the human condition to the stage with a light touch and subtle wit.
Founded in 2000, Oblivia have been creating performances out of movement, dance, language, sound, light and gestures for over twenty years. Oblivia’s performances develop a unique atmosphere of nonchalant vitality while pondering almost philosophical questions. It is this atmosphere which renders their works enigmatic and relatable to the audience at the same time. In recent years, Oblivia has ventured more and more into the field of experimental music theatre.
The performance of REALITY BANG will be accompanied by the Museum of Oblivia's Performance Art (MOOPA), both a digital exhibition and an interactive game.
