Igor Koruga, who is associated with the current apap – Feminist Futures programme, and Ivana Kalc are making their first guest appearance in Austria. Their duet Why not (?) searches for the embodiment and definition of today’s hopeless, isolated, scared, over-identified body of the individual and the affective space of care between at least two people. In this framework, the authors explore the use of “sameness” or unison as a technique in dance.

They examine how this technique has been employed both as a creative method in various dance periods of the 20th century and as a deliberate tool for shaping societal norms in different political systems such as communism, fascism and capitalism. This exploration serves as a foundation for fostering political engagement, critical connections, and coexistence in today’s society.

Ivana Kalc is a dancer, choreographer, and dance educator and interested in concepts of time, space and body. Having studied at SEAD Salzburg and at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2008. Since 2016, she has been one of the founders and artistic directors of the Festival of Contemporary Dance and Movement Periskop in Rijeka.

Igor Koruga is a contemporary dance artist and choreographer from Belgrade. He works as an author,
pedagogue, stage-movement choreographer as well as researcher focusing on archiving dance practices in the (post)socialist Yugoslav context. His resistance against capitalism draws inspiration from feminist, anti-anthropocentric, and queer-Marxist perspectives.
