thursday 30.6. through tuesday 5.7.: 10:30-12:30 pm, franziskischlössl
the search for limitless freedom is perhaps the greatest force behind the doomed expeditions, insane inventions, and huge personal sacrifices that humanity has endured in its attempts to push the boundaries of civilization. these expeditions, and particularly their failure, are the theme of paul horn and veronika barnaš’ new installation. the piece aims for an atmosphere which approaches that of the moment in which an undertaking seems to have become completely hopeless. the point when euphoria is replaced with apathy, when disappointment creeps in; this is the focal point of the installation. the last days or hours of an undertaking are often moments of introspection; fantasies are confused with fixed ideas, ideals with hallucinations. the layout of the space, with its confusing pathways and lack of linear story, communicate the same sense of utter lose to the audience; and reminds us of the violent past of franziskischlössl. luckily, it’s also a comfortable place for a drink today – horn and barnaš will be available for discussion over beer when the piece is finished.
